I wrote a guest column for the online version of the Concord Magazine, which they published yesterday. 2009 might be the year of Poe, but 2010 will be the year of Margaret Fuller! View the article here: Margaret Fuller: The Measure of Her Footprint.
You'll note, of course, that even though the article is on Margaret Fuller, I found a way to mention Poe.

"'On the 23rd of May, 1810, was born one foredoomed to sorrow and pain, and like others to have misfortunes.'"
So it seems she had something in common with Poe after all. :-)
But I like the fact that, later in life, she made Emerson laugh. It occurs to me that Emerson might have been more bearable if he'd laughed more!
Good article.
Can you believe how young she was when she wrote that? This woman was really just aware of the world!
And I totally agree about Emerson. :)
